On a drizzly Wednesday evening Barnard Castle mens team travelled to take on Bishop Auckland.
Ryan Bond and Nigel Daniels opened up against the first pair losing the first set 4-6, in the second set it was even closer getting to a tie break. The Barnard Castle pair took an early lead in this before Bishop Auckland came back to within 1 point before Barnard Castle edged over the line 7 points to 5. On the other court the second pair of Adam Thompson and Jonathan Kirk found the going a little easier winning their match 6-3, 6-2 giving Barnard Castle a 3 sets to 1 lead at the turn around.
In the reverse fixtures, Nigel and Ryan beat the second pair 6-2, 6-1 giving Barnard Castle an unasailable lead in the match. Adam and Jonathan on the other court were having a nip and tuck match against the first pair from Bishop Auckland. Having quickly fallen 0-4 down the Barnard Castle pair dragged themselves back to take the set to a tie break but unfortunately lost this. As the dark descended it was a race to get the second set completed but the Barnard Castle pair battled through to take another close set 6-4 in near darkness at the end. This gave Barnard Castle a 6 sets to 2 overall victory and a fifth victory of the season.
